becoming a resident

How you can become part of the community.

We’re always looking for new residents for the Bauhäusle and welcome anyone interested in joining our community.

Here you’ll find information about the requirements and the application process.

Requirements

The Bauhäusle is part of the housing facilities managed by the Stuttgart Student Services Organization (Studierendenwerk Stuttgart), so the organization’s rental terms and responsibilities also apply here. To move in with us, you must be enrolled at one of the following universities:

If you are not studying at one of these universities, you can still apply. However, only students from the universities listed above will be considered initially, and external students will only be considered once all applications from those universities have been processed.

You can find a current overview of the general rental terms and eligibility criteria on the Studierendenwerk website.

If you are unsure whether you meet these requirements, we strongly recommend that you apply anyway. Your eligibility for housing will then be reviewed by the Studierendenwerk.

Application

Applications for a spot with us are handled directly through the Studierendenwerk Stuttgart. There is an online tool you can use to submit all the necessary information and files right away. The first step is to select your preferred residence hall. Of course, you should choose the Bauhäusle as one of the three options.

The date of your application is important for moving in with us. This means that those who apply to the Studierendenwerk earlier are higher on the waiting list, get an introductory round sooner, and can move in with us earlier. If you encounter any problems with the online application, please contact the relevant staff at the Studierendenwerk as soon as possible. It’s best to do this in person or by phone.

Introductory Round

The introductory round is a standard part of our application process. The Student Services Organization notifies us when we receive your application, and we invite you and other applicants from the waiting list to the next introductory session. Don’t worry, it’s not a job interview where you have to prove your skills or qualifications. You’re also not competing with the other applicants. Everyone has a chance to move in. The session is simply there so we can get to know you personally and so you can get a firsthand impression of us and the house.

Why all of this?

Our Bauhäusle is a community made up of many colorful personalities, and we place great value on maintaining its diversity and cohesion. Additionally, we are largely self-managed. This means we take care of work on the house and organizational matters within the house on our own. With the introductory round, we want to find out if you’re interested in contributing to the community and if you’d be willing to pick up a hammer every now and then to renovate or repair something.

Apart from that, you’re always welcome to drop by for a visit with no strings attached and get a glimpse of our daily life. It’s best to let us know in advance.
